ALL SOLICITORS (INCLUDING MEAT SALESMEN AND BLACKTOP SALESMEN) NEED A PERMIT TO GO "DOOR TO DOOR" IN THE TOWN OF BINGHAMTON

I’ve received a few calls already this year from resident’s complaining about door-to-door salesmen.  This includes meat salesmen who sell out of their trucks and sealcoating companies offering a “great deal” on blacktop.  Here are the rules:  Salesmen/saleswomen are required to obtain a solicitor’s permit before selling.  Permits are issued through the Code Enforcement office at the Town Hall.  If someone comes to your door, you have the right to ask to see the permit that they are required to carry.  If they tell you they don’t need one, you can tell them that they DO and send them over to the Town Hall where I will gladly issue all of the necessary paperwork.  Always try to get the company name, license plate number, make and model of the vehicle, color of vehicle, and any other information you feel would be helpful in tracking them down.  Don't hesitate to call the Town Hall if you have any questions.  The Code Enforcement Officer (Nick Pappas) can be reached at 772-0357, ext. 12.  If no answer, please leave a message.
